Full Analysis Of One Music Magazine 'NME'

NME Magazine Front Cover

The image used for the front cover is an action shot of the band, so they are all at different levels which creates a scene to the image so you get drawn to each band member by their different position.
The lighting is quite strong in this image and each member of the band is shown clearly so you can tell it was in a studio rather than on a location shoot.
Five colours have been used on this front cover, Red which is usually used on all NME front covers, Yellow, Blue, White and Black. The colours have been used quite subtly so that the cover doesn’t look to busy and they all blend in well with each other. Parts that perhaps they wanted you to notice more stand out well with a different colour background behind the writing. The types of clothes this band is wearing is the typical look for an indie band of this age range. Two of the band members are looking directly at the camera, but the other band member on the left is looking off into the distance out of the side of the magazine. I think they have done this so it doesn’t look like a typical boy band image.
From looking at this magazine cover i would say it is aimed mainly at a male audience, and the age range i would say is about 17-30, and the average age is about 25.
I would suggest that the readers of this magazine are probably not married but are on the verge of looking to settle down with a family. Who have the social status of B/C1/C2.

NME Contents Page

When i first look at this contents page from NME magazine i automatically get drawn to the subscribtion to the magazine because although it is placed at the bottom, it is in the brightest colour, which is only used on that part and it is backed by a black background so it stands out more. I would think the creators of NME has done this on purpose so you can see how much money you would save if you subscribed to this magazine, which in the long run makes them more money too. Next i was drawn to the feauture article of this magazine about the band Oasis. This also was most probably made the focus point as this is what most of that weeks edition of the magazine will be about and they want you to read it seen as they would of spent more time on that part than some of the other parts.
Contents pages are split into two parts usually and these are features (which only appear in one particular issue) and regulars (the items that appear in each issue) the features in this magazine are the pages about Oasis, Kings Of Leon, Lil Wayne, Cage The Elephant and Debbie Harry. These are all things that this magazine have researched into just for this edition and will be on majority of the magazine. The regulars in this magazine that appear every week are Letters, Peter Robinson Vs, Gear and Crossword, NME TV and 12 Steps. These will be the parts of the magazine that the NME readers will expect to see everyweek.

NME Feature Article
This is a double page spread from the NME magazine. Some of the text is highlighted and for this article they have used blue, black and white text to keep it simple and not look to busy. There isn’t alot of text as it’s also talking about other bands as well as ‘The Teenagers’. Some of the main parts of the article are pulled out as pull quotes to draw the audience into the article. It has a need to know box which includes some short facts about the band, this makes it easier for readers to see if they are just flicking through the magazine. This magazine goes is a typical NME feature article as it's quite short and tells the readers exactly what they want to know, there is a large image and the colours all compliment each other well.
